50,000+ students are enrolled in our colleges and universities. Dallas, and the North Texas Region include 7,000,000+ people & 9,000 square miles. The good news is that help is here, support is here, big fun is here, love is here. GO to rallies, Be Heard, Demonstrate that our community is in solidarity with others, and they will in turn support our causes also. We really are stronger together, and I encourage you to support other marginalized groups. There are support services in place for our LGBTQ community, and they all need our support, especially our transgender services.īeing a Rainbow minority in a Red State means we must be extra diligent in raising our voices to support not only LGBTQ rights, but the rights off all minorities. Our community also grapples with domestic violence, homelessness, and addiction at all socioeconomic and age levels. As of the Texas HIV Surveillance Report shows 26,752 persons living with HIV in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan area. As of 2015 our community has the highest rate of HIV infection in Texas.
The truth is that our community is both full of opportunity and also in great need. Most of the big LGBTQ events in our region aim to raise awareness and money, to support non-profits doing the daily work of maintaining a safety net for our community. We have MANY glittering annual events - Black-Tie Dinner, Toast to Life, Allen Ross Freedom Parade, House of DIFFA, Life Walk, Purple Party Weekend, Southern Pride, Latino Pride, 2X2 for AIDS and ART, Halloween Block Party, QueerBomb, and many more - so yeah, we like to celebrate :-) If you're looking to get involved in the community there are tons of options, from bingo to politics and everything in between. Our LGBTQ community is among the largest in the U.S., and extremely diverse. There are numerous groups, teams, clubs, leagues, and organizations offering support services, and ways to be active in our community at whatever your comfort level is. This site aims to provide information on LGBTQ services, and opportunities in Dallas, and North Texas.
